Awards were handed out at Marathon İzmir

Sunday, April 21, 2024 Athletes who competed and ranked in the 42-kilometer Marathon İzmir Avek, organized by İzmir Metropolitan Municipality for the fifth time this year, were given their awards.  
Organized by İzmir Metropolitan Municipality for the fifth time this year, "Türkiye's Fastest Marathon" Marathon İzmir Avek was run with the participation of 600 elite athletes from 38 countries. The award ceremony of the 42-kilometer race was held in Kültürpark. Kenyan Vitalis Kibiwot came first in the men's race with a time of 2 hours 11 minutes 8 seconds, Ethiopian Sendeku Alelgn came second with 2 hours 13 minutes 42 seconds and Kenyan Silas Kurui came third with 2 hours 13 minutes 47 seconds. In the 42-kilometer run, Ethiopian Aamelmal Tagel won the women's race in 2 hours 37 minutes 26 seconds. Ethiopian Bekelech Bedada was second in 2 hours 42 minutes 10 seconds and Japan's Suguru Oktabe was third in 2 hours 43 minutes 16 seconds.
A total of 42 thousand dollars in 42K prizes
In the 42K Marathon İzmir Avek 2024 General Men and General Women, the first prize was 10 thousand dollars, the second 5 thousand dollars, the third 3 thousand dollars, the fourth 2 thousand dollars and the fifth one thousand dollars. On behalf of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Dr. Cemil Tugay, Elvin Sönmez Güler, CHP Group Spokesperson of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Assembly and Deputy Mayor of Karabağlar Municipality, Ertuğrul Tugay, Deputy Secretary General of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, Hakan Orhunbilge, Head of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Youth and Sports Services Department, Hüseyin Egeli, President of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Sports Club, Ersan Odaman, Chairman of Ege Şehir A.Ş., Derya Uluğ, General Manager of AVEK Automotive and Aras Kaynarca, Member of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Assembly. 
42 K Turkish women and men, total prize money 100 thousand TL
In 42K Turkish Women and Turkish Men, the first prize was 14 thousand TL, the second prize was 12 thousand TL, the third prize was 10 thousand TL, the fourth prize was 8 thousand TL, and the fifth prize was 6 thousand TL In total, 50 thousand TL was awarded in both categories and the competition ceremony was enlivened with dance performances and concerts.  Hakan Turan (2 hours 51 minutes 3 seconds), Serdar Sezer (2 hours 51 minutes 6 seconds) and Erkan Bacak (2 hours 52 minutes 5 seconds) were first, second and third respectively. In the women's 42K, Tuğba Türkgülü (3 hours 52 minutes 21 seconds), Selin Çimrin (4 hours 2 minutes 22 seconds) and Pınar Doğan (4 hours 19 minutes 53 seconds) took the first, second and third places respectively.
Running started at 08.00
The start of the 42-kilometer run was given at 08:00 in front of the old İZFAŞ building on Şair Eşref Boulevard in Kültürpark. The athletes reached Karşıyaka via Alsancak and started their return before reaching Bostanlı Pier. The athletes, who reached İnciraltı on the same course, this time via Mustafa Kemal Coastal Boulevard, returned from Marina İzmir and completed the race at the starting point. Within the scope of Marathon İzmir this year, a 10-kilometer run was also held with the participation of 5 thousand athletes and the winners were given awards.
